1998-1999 Dickinson Program Awards
We've had a lot of great things going on in Dickinson this year. The
staff and students in the area work very hard to create fun and upbeat
opportunities for people to get involved and learn outside of the
classroom. The following programs have been honored with
Programming Awards by the Office of Residential Life at Binghamton
University and were organized by Dickinson
staff. It gives you a
basic idea of the types of progams
that occur during the year...
As you can see, there are lots of programs that happen during the year and
these are just a sampling of the hundreds that are completed during the
academic year. Come out and support these programs--have some fun &
Advance Registration for Dummies: Presented by Tianna Moscinski
and Christina Ritter, RA's in Whitney Hall. Academic Advice was
provided by specialists combined with pizza and soda.
Erotic Week: Organized by the Whitney Hall RA Staff--Steve
Bornerman, Crystal Hardy, Tianna Moscinski, Christina Redko, Jamie Rihbany
and Christina Ritter. The staff provided a week of programs focusing
on the sexual dimension of the wellness model.
Express Yourself: Presented by Sarah Macarin, RA in Champlain
Hall. This program gave students the opportunity to express their
emotions through their art and poetry which was displayed in the Champlain
Hall Main Lounge.
How to Save the World in 3 Minutes Presented by Jordan Wolf, RA
in Champlain Hall. Three community members involved in local
elections and NYPIRG addressed issues related to the environment.
Masquerade Ball Presented by Kerrie Dawson, RA in O'Connor hall
and the O'Connor Hall Council. This alcohol-free option on a Friday
night provided an opportunity for staff and governemnt to work together.
The Ball itself was costume-optional and included a DJ, refreshments and
Mr Wizard: Presented by Steve Borneman and Mark Czopp, RA's in
Whitney Hall and Johnson Hall, respectively. This program provided a
great way to get a faculty fellow involved! Dr. Dix came in and did some
fun Chemistry experiments. Students also got to know their CHEM 107
Pie Your Professor/RD for St Jude's: Presented by Tom Babu, Juan
Guichardo and Holly Spanier. Students had a chance to pie their
professor or RD in the face. The money that was raised went to St Jude's
Urban Legends and Pumpkin Decorating: Presented by Kerrie Dawson
and Wendy Molloy, RA's in O'Connor Hall. Faculty Master Libby Tucker
facilitated a discussion on urban legends, ghost stories, and scary
stories in general, in celebration of Halloween. Many students shared
their own stories and pumpkins were available to decorate while Libby
talked about the history of the jack-o-lantern and pumpkin decorating in
Whitney Hall Adopts a Family: Presented by Tianna Moscinski,
Jamie Rihbany and Christina Ritter, RA's in Whitney Hall, along with
Whitney Hall Council. RA's and Hall Council worked together and raised
money from a pie in the face program, penny wars and donations to purchase
gifts based on requests from a family. Fellows also offered both
financial and physical support by giving help and wrapping gifts.
