For almost a decade, CoRE has been running an event called "Maximum Overkill" each semester on campus. Maximum Overkill was originally a small gaming tournament using the built in projectors of the lecture halls to play Unreal Tournament on "the big screens". We held this tournament over a few hours and gave out prizes to the top three players. A few years ago, we decided to become more ambitious and change the format from a simple tournament to an entire gaming convention.
Each semester from the fall of 2004, Maximum Overkill (MaxOver for short) descends upon the largest lecture hall of Academic Building A for a major LAN party. This rebirth of MaxOver has been wildly successful, and each succeeding semester has generated more people, more interest, and more events. No longer contained to just computer games, MaxOver has Console games, Card games, and various other activities setup.
We have been sponsored by many well known computer and technology companies like ATI, Thermaltake, Nvidia, CPU Magazine, Bawls and Maxtor, have had vendors setup tables, and even had a few Binghamton University professors show up to join in the fun. Last semester's MaxOver hit a new record of 250 people, thanks to many campus groups that helped CoRE with various events, and we hope to increase that number greatly this year. Please check this website for the dates, locations, events, and other information about Maximum Overkill. Also, don't forget to tell your friends!
Our goal for the Fall 2008 MaxOver is 500 people attending the event at the height. What this will allow us to do is to expand into another location whether that be the Events Center on Campus or a gym, but will allow for much more people, vendors, games, sponsors, ect.
